Chatham County Launches Study to Remove Railroad Crossing on President Street

Chatham County, along with the City of Savannah and the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO), has started a study to explore ways to remove the railroad crossing on President Street, where it intersects with Truman Parkway.

The public is encouraged to attend one of two upcoming meetings to learn about potential short- and long-term solutions. Both meetings will be in an open house format, with the same information presented at each. Community feedback will help shape the final recommendations.

Meeting Dates and Locations:

  • Tuesday, September 17, 2024
    Frank Murray Community Center
    125 Wilmington Island Road
    4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday, September 18, 2024
    Mendonsa Hearing Room (MPC/CORE MPO)
    112 East State Street
    4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The study will look at current and future traffic needs, safety concerns, and how the area is expected to grow. It will also consider the needs of freight vehicles, commuters, local traffic, and pedestrians and cyclists. The goal is to develop solutions to improve traffic flow and safety by eliminating the crossing.
