Great People Help Chatham County . . . 

 

Check ALL the Boxes for Great Government!

 

Together with the NAtional Association of Counties (NACo), Chatham County has been observing National County Government Month all during the month of April. If you haven't been following our video series on social media every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this month, you'll want to go check them out here.  You'll be glad you did!

We're wrapping up the month with webstories here that bring it all together -- so far we've talked about the Great Places and the Great Services of our county.  We could not end without also talking about the Great People who help Chatham County check all the boxes for Great Government.

Lots of Great People work hard to make Chatham County Government truly great. That starts at the top with our leadership body, the Board of Commissioners. Chatham County has eight of these elected representatives; together with the Chairman of Commission, they make all the most important decisions on our behalf.

The Chairman is elected by and represents the entire county, while each Commissioner is elected by and represents a specific district. They ensure their district’s interests and concerns are heard whenever decisions are being made. The commissioners are more than representatives of the people of their district, though. They are neighbors, required to be residents of their districts. They work for us on the local level and on state and national levels as well. Ever wondered who keeps our county running smoothly on a day to day basis? For Chatham County it is County Manager Michael Kaigler and Assistant County Manager Linda Cramer. Mr. Kaigler is the chief operations officer of county government, overseeing daily operations, managing budgets, and ensuring essential services like public safety, infrastructure, and community programs are delivered effectively and efficiently.

This management team works closely with the Board of Commissioners to implement policies they enact. Together they oversee more than 20 departments that keep the county running and deliver services to residents and visitors alike.

Chatham County leadership puts in the time and effort to become subject matter experts on Local Government, so that they can be the best representatives possible for their districts and for our county as a whole. They are some of the people who help Chatham County check the box for Great People in county government.

When you visit or call Chatham County, the many faces and voices you see or hear are the front-line staff of our external-facing departments.  They answer your questions, help you resolve issues, and work hard every day to keep our community informed, supported, and safe.  These team members include customer service associates, professional telecommunicators, outreach staff, and others who pick up the phone when you call. Behind every great service our community receives is a team of dedicated professionals you may never meet or talk to. They are the members of our internal-facing departments, and their missions are to support Chatham County in doing all the things it does.   They work to keep our County efficient, ethical, focused, safe, and even mobile.  You can meet these departments when their feature is posted to social media April 30th, the last day of National County Government Month.

The 2215 members of Team Chatham are the backbone of Chatham County.  Together with County leadership, they’re working hard every day to support the services that matter most to YOU!
